Goosebumps

Reader beware, you’re in for a delightful movie tie-in. (Sorry that doesn’t rhyme.)

To celebrate the home entertainment release of the delightfully spooky Goosebumps movie, we created a one-of-a-kind digital feature. Channeling the chills and laughs found in R.L. Stine’s book series, this microsite offered fans a chance to create their own Goosebumps story.

Upon entering the site, fans chose between two original tales I had written: “The Abominable Camping Trip” and “Invaders from Out of Town.” In a Mad Libs-style experience, the user simply answered a series of prompts to generate a short story “written” by them.

To make each story as outrageous as possible, the user prompts relied on a tried-and-true comedy trope: opposites attract. For example, if the story needed to describe a terrifying monster, the user might be prompted with “The cutest animal in the world is a [blank].”

The end result was a fun, goofy story that users could share on social media...if they dared.
